Rothe House

Kilkenny City, Co. Kilkenny

Rothe House, in Parliament Street, is a beautiful Tudor Town House, built by John Rothe in 1594. He added two further inter-linking houses behind in the early 1600s as his family expanded. It is a fine example of a prosperous merchant’s house of the 16th century. Rothe House is now the headquarters of the Kilkenny Archaeological Society and houses a museum, genealogical research centre and a period costume collection.

Our Take

Rothe House is quite deceiving- keep walking back and you will see the facade in triplicate. They don't make them like that no more!
