
Built in the 1880s to the design of Thomas Deane, the National Museum is a housed in splendid domed rotunda features marble pillars and a zodiac mosaic floor. Visitors to the National Museum can find prehistoric gold, medieval treasures and an assortment of Viking antiquities. Talking a guided tour is well advised in order not to miss the highlights such as the Tara Brooch, the Cross of Cong and the Broighter gold boat. Entrance is free of charge. Visitors should note that the National Museum is closed on Mondays.
